Dieser Brief, den der schottische Captain Robert Campbell of Glenlyon by his superior, Major Robert Duncanson of Fassokie receives leaves no questions unanswered. It is a contract murder, the massacre of Glencoe . Duncanson himself had received a similar command of his superiors, Lieutenant Colonel James Hamilton. This letter was more general, because Duncanson was inaugurated for days in the murder plan. Hamilton is the deputy to Colonel John Hill, who commanded the British troops at Fort William. With a heavy heart, had signed the murder of the command: to march straight to Glencoe, and there put in executions due the orders you have received from the Commander-in-Chief . Because the command comes from above, not only for the Commander-in-Chief, but by Sir John Dalrymple . And the king has signed it. William III is now king of Scotland, he wants to impose his will against the rebellious Clan Chiefs, who still mourn his predecessor, James fled to France.

The old Colonel John Hill, who is one of the few honest men in this story, has postponed the signature again. But he also knows that he, who is respected by all the clan chiefs, the government in London has long been suspect. Sir John Dalrymple negotiated long behind his back with the Colonel Hamilton. If he does not sign, Hamilton will act on its own. The troops to kill the clan of the MacDonalds in Glencoe, have been weeks in the MacDonalds as guests, officially they are there to collect the taxes. Captain Robert Duncanson lives in the home of the Chiefs. The fact that they kill their hosts, makes the murder under Scottish law ( murder under trust ) to an even worse crime.

The Scottish story is made up of hundreds of individual clans fighting each other that, in these struggles have been a bloodbath worse than that on 13 Februar 1692nd But this is not a new chapter in the fight against the Campbells, the MacDonalds of Glencoe, which is bringing the MacDonald's reputation as cattle thieves and murderers worked in good faith. This Version, which the government later distributed convinced no one, there will be commissions to investigate the whole. Sir John Dalrymple will step down from his post if the Scottish Parliament announced the killing of the Glencoe men was murder. But the king to accuse no one dares to hold his protecting hand over him. Dalrymple's favorite Hamilton will not try to rely on an order of emergency, he will flee to Flanders. Colonel Hill is to achieve after long negotiations that the snow storm survivors who fled the massacre must return to their valley.

No other event in the Scottish history - with the exception of the Battle of Culloden ☞ - Glencoe is in the national imagination to stay alive. Poets and historians will write about the day of February, singers sing it. The best description is John Prebble Glencoe from the year 1966, you can not read the book without tears in his eyes.

falls Exactly 261 years after the massacre of Glencoe, a French court judgments in a process in which it was also about a massacre, the massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane, the main culprit, the SS General Heinz Lammerding is in absentia sentenced to death, but the Federal Republic it provides is not enough. The Internet address is still today hundreds of pages that provide a distorted version of history or glorify the acts of the SS.
